Kids Dance at Willies
Sunday, April 29TH
Our 3RD Annual Kids Dance is back on April 29TH.  Have your kids ages 7-11 come on down to the basement of Willies from 3-5 to dance their hearts out.  Cost is $3 per kid.  Parents are welcome to stay but it is not necessary.  We will have dance contests and something yummy to eat.  We have DJ Nick Meineke lined up to help your kiddos dance the afternoon away.  Last year we had about 40 kids, let’s see if we can surpass that number!

Family Campout is set for May 5th
Our annual springtime family campout is always a good time!  Come on out to Lightner Fields at dusk.  We will supply the bonfire you supply the rest.  If the rain decides to join us we will postpone the campout to the following Saturday, May 12th.  You can contact Elizabeth at purdue1220@yahoo.com for more information.

ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT
Was a HUGE Success
We had a fantastic turnout considering the weather was playing April Fools with us.  Over 160 children showed up with their parents and grandparents to partake in our annual Easter Egg Hunt.  Children’s Activities would like to thank Pam Skyles for donating several 100 pieces of candy, Sheree Barrell and the SDIS Destination Imagination for providing games and activities, Jim Farris with the Bookmobile and Cheryl with Personalized Kids Adventures.  Congratulations to the following children who found the golden egg in their age category-0-2 years old Olivia Wells, 3-6 years Henry Hornung and 7-9 years Lacie Letulle!

Pre-Registration for Events is Encouraged

With the growth of Hidden Valley Lake over the past several years, it has become more and more difficult to estimate the number of children attending our events.  In the past, the Children’s Activities Club members have had to guess (from previous years) the attendance that might be then go out and purchase items.  There have been years where we have purchased way too much (which creates a tremendous waste of money) and there have been years that we haven’t bought quite enough.  So, with that being said, we have decided a good way to ensure that all members wanting to partake in our events is to pre-register.  We are going to be doing this with any event that requires us to have goodies up front which are the Easter Egg Scramble, Halloween Walk and Pizza with Santa.  We hope that this will eliminate any problems that we have found in the past and make our events smoother and easier to run.

Here is a rundown and description of the things that the Children’s Activities offers our residents of Hidden Valley Lake:

Easter Egg Scramble-(pre-registration encouraged) takes place the Sat. before Easter every year at the ball fields (Lightner Fields).  In case of rain or muddy fields it will be held in Willie’s basement.  Cost for this event has been and will remain $4 per child.  Bring your own bag to collect your eggs!  The Easter Bunny always makes an appearance and there are often other games for the children to do while waiting for the bunny and the scramble.

Kids Dance-this event was introduced in early spring and was a great success with our 7 to 11 year olds.  We are hoping to continue having this dance every year and having it DJ’ed by our very own Nick Meineke.

Family Campout-there are 2 of these a year-one in the spring and one in the fall.  This is a free event for families and has grown becoming a favorite in the Valley.

4th of July Kids Parade-Every July, children gather at Lightner Fields with their decorated bikes, trikes and wagons.  We explain why we celebrate Independence Day on the 4th, have patriotic music and say the Pledge of Allegiance.  There are goodies offered with drinks.  We usually make a patriotic banner with handprints.

Haunted Hayride-take place the 2nd Sat in Oct. and is our biggest fundraiser.  A lot of prep and time is put into this event and seems to be really enjoyed by all.   Residents along the route are asked to decorate their yards and scare if they want.  Cost is $3 per person and the ride loops the valley lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Halloween Walk-(pre-registration is encouraged) usually the last Sunday of the Month (not this year though b/c it would fall on Halloween and we were concerned with parents having to keep their little ones dressed up all day or dressing them up at 2 separate times!).  This event starts on Longview by the beach and goes all the way down the street.  Volunteers sit at driveways and hand out candy to all the ghosts and goblins.  This is probably one of the oldest events in the Valley and is definitely a resident favorite!  Cost for this event is $4 per child.  Bring your own bag to collect your goodies!

Pizza with Santa-(pre-registration is required)-the 1st Sunday of December.  Come join Santa for pizza, dessert and a craft in Willies basement.  Enjoy one on one with the big guy!   Cost is $8 for adults and $5 per child.  Children under 2 are free.

Volunteers are needed at most of our events!  Please get involved and volunteer your time.  You may contact Elizabeth Isom at 513-289-5720 with any questions regarding any of these events!
